Gina Lollobrigida dead: ‘Most beautiful woman in the world’ dies at 95

Italian film star Gina Lollobrigida died Monday in Rome. She was 95.

Lollobrigida became known internationally in the 1950s after starring alongside Humphrey Bogart in 1953’s Beat the Devil and Frank Sinatra in Never So Few in 1959.

Her agent confirmed the death but didn’t say if there was a specific illness that caused her death.

Lollobrigida was often referred to as “the most beautiful woman in the world” during that era and was known as a pop culture icon, including a reference on The Jetsons in 1962.

Films weren’t the only art she enjoyed. She was also a sculptor, painter, and photographer who took pictures around the world, including in the former Soviet Union.

Lollobrigida was also a guest of Cuban leader Fidel Castro in 1974 for 12 days as she worked on a documentary on him.

She also dabbled in politics, running unsuccessfully for European Parliament in 1999.

In 2018, Lollobrigida received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
