Biden denies China-linked payments to family members despite bank records

President Joe Biden denied reports that some of his family members received more than $1 million in payments linked to Hunter Biden’s business associate Rob Walker originating from a Chinese company.

The House Committee on Oversight and Accountability on Thursday released a report showing Hallie Biden, the widow of Beau Biden with whom Hunter Biden had a romantic relationship, received $35,000 from accounts tied to Walker, including $25,000 that appears to have originated from a Chinese company. The report cited bank records from Walker that were subpoenaed by the committee earlier this year.

When asked about the report’s findings on Friday afternoon, President Biden denied the accusations as being “not true.”

However, a spokesperson for Hunter Biden’s legal team confirmed the authenticity of the payments earlier this week, noting the accounts “belonged to Hunter, his uncle and Hallie – nobody else,” according to Fox News.

The committee’s report showed the Chinese company State Energy HK Limited transferred $3 million to Robinson Walker LLC, an account belonging to Walker, who is a longtime business partner of Hunter Biden. Those payments were made two months after Joe Biden left the White House as vice president in 2017.

Hallie Biden received an initial payment of $10,000 from Walker’s account on Feb. 13, 2017, and another $25,000 on March 20, 2017, according to the report.

Lawmakers also concluded that “Biden family members and their companies began receiving incremental payments over a period of approximately three months” after Robinson Walker LLC received the Chinese wire and that recipients of the money included Hallie Biden, companies associated with Hunter Biden and James Biden, and an unknown bank account identified only as “Biden.”

“The Oversight Committee is concerned about the national security implications resulting from President Biden’s family receiving millions of dollars from foreign nationals,” Committee Chairman James Comer said on Thursday. “We will continue to follow the money trail and facts to determine if President Biden is compromised by his family’s business schemes and if there is a national security threat.”

In a separate statement, the White House criticized the committee’s investigation into the Biden family but stopped short of denying Comer’s initial findings.

“Instead of bizarrely attacking the President’s family, perhaps House Republicans should focus on working with the President to deliver results for American families on important priorities like lowering costs and strengthening healthcare,” White House spokesman Ian Sams said.
