Donald Trump arrest: Marjorie Taylor Greene calls Bragg ‘a tool for the Democrats’ in fiery protest rally

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) accused Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg of serving as “a tool for the Democrats” as she descended on New York City on Tuesday ahead of former President Donald Trump‘s arraignment.

After being escorted through a swarm of reporters and Trump supporters, Greene took a bullhorn and tore into Bragg for “perverting the justice system” and interfering in the 2024 election to the detriment of the GOP.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) walks through the crowd gathered outside the courthouse where former U.S. President Donald Trump will arrive later in the day for his arraignment on April 4, 2023 in New York City.

“Bragg is a tool for the Democrats to try to hijack the 2024 elections,” Greene declared. “The real threat to democracy is them.”

A supporter of Greene welcomed her to the boisterous crowd by hailing her as a “MAGA hero.” Her speech was made at a protest ahead of Trump’s arraignment in a noisy, chaotic scene in which backers of Trump jeered and booed his indictment. Greene appeared to be jostled and pushed by onlookers as she delivered her address. She was escorted away afterward, with security shoving through the crowd.

One reporter on the scene estimated that under 100 Trump supporters were in attendance. There were a handful of reporters, cameramen, and Trump operatives at the rally as well.

Greene emphasized that she was coming as a member of Congress to protest peacefully. She also fired back at Mayor Eric Adams for raising safety concerns and highlighted crime in the city.

“President Trump will be found innocent; we will not tolerate it,” Greene proclaimed, arguing that the government “weaponized” the justice system against Trump. “This is what happens to communist countries. … We have to take a stand against the communist Democrats.”

Greene quickly ticked through a list of political subjects, such as abortion, transgenderism, war, border security, and the economy, to juxtapose the GOP with the Democrats.

The event was organized by New York Republicans ahead of Trump’s arraignment. Following his appearance in New York court, Trump is slated to head back to Mar-a-Lago to deliver a speech on the case against him.

Trump is believed to be facing over 30 counts in a case that reportedly stems from an alleged $130,000 hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 election cycle. The exact charges remain sealed.

Trump has adamantly denied wrongdoing and decried the Manhattan case against him as a “witch hunt.” Meanwhile, his 2024 campaign has touted a surge in donations as his supporters rally behind him.

He is the first sitting or former U.S. president to be hit with criminal charges. President Ulysses Grant was arrested after speeding, but he was not indicted.
