It’s fair to say that those who were expecting Elon Musk to remain at the helm of Twitter indefinitely have not been paying attention to the business magnate’s words and actions.
On that note, the billionaire announced on Tuesday evening that the search was on for “someone foolish enough” to replace him as CEO at Twitter — this coming after he posted an informal poll asking users if he should stay or go, and 57.5% saying go.
“I will resign as CEO as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job! After that, I will just run the software & servers teams,” Musk tweeted.

The tweet suggests that Musk will remain actively involved in the goings on at Twitter even if he finds a replacement, which is something he mentioned long before the poll.
In November, while testifying in the case of a Tesla shareholder alleging that CEO compensation was excessive, Musk let it be known that running Twitter was a temporary thing.
“I expect to reduce my time at Twitter and find somebody else to run Twitter over time,” he said.
Musk is the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, as well, and has said that he doesn’t “want to be CEO of any company.”
As for what Musk is looking for, he dropped a hint when he explained in a tweet that Twitter “at its core is a software & servers company. The technology needs to evolve rapidly, which requires a technologist.”
And that may take a while… perhaps by brilliant design:

Interestingly, Tom Anderson, the co-founder of the social networking website Myspace, may have tossed his hat in the ring:

Turns out, he may have plenty of support!
Should Tom Anderson @myspacetom be the new CEO of Twitter?

Here’s a sampling of other responses to Musk’s tweet, as seen on Twitter:
worded perfectly. Heads are exploding. They thought you were going to leave, as if you dont still own the company.

As long as you don’t turn @Twitter back over to the FBI.
