Representative Thomas Massie, a libertarian Republican from Kentucky, is calling for an immediate halt to any further funding to Ukraine and an audit of any monies that have already been delivered by the President and Congress.

Massie (R-KY) is coming off the heels of a resounding victory in his reelection bid last week.

The congressman took to social media on Monday and called to reel in out-of-control spending on the Ukraine war effort.

“We should immediately stop payments to Ukraine and begin a thorough audit of the $60 billion that Joe Biden and Congress have already sent there,” he wrote.

Thomas Massie Wants Ukraine Funding Stopped

Thomas Massie has been a rare voice of reason when it comes to government spending on Ukraine and in general.

A fiscal conservative from day one in Congress, he often votes in opposition to the wanton spending of taxpayer dollars regardless of the reasoning behind it.

Massie raised the ire of former President Donald Trump when he tried to stall a $2.2 trillion coronavirus economic rescue plan early on in the pandemic.

“Throw Massie out of Republican Party!” Trump tweeted at the time.

If only Massie had been taken seriously, perhaps America wouldn’t be in the throes of historic inflation levels.

Massie joins Senator Rand Paul in demanding accountability for the ‘blank check’ spending for Ukraine.

Paul, also from Kentucky, managed to temporarily delay a $40 billion military aid package for Ukraine earlier this year, demanding access for an Inspector General to monitor how the funds are being spent.

What a novel idea. Of course, Republicans refused to back him, so the money went through.

Massie and Marjorie Taylor Greene Vote Against Russia-Ukraine Bills

Thomas Massie joined Marjorie Taylor Greene as the only two Representatives to vote against four separate bills that either reprimanded Russia or supported Ukraine in May.

Massie touted his efforts.

“Congress has voted for ten bills now that will put US citizens at risk, prolong the conflict in Ukraine, waste tax-payer money, increase domestic food and energy prices, and draw us further into this conflict. I have voted against all of them,” he said in a statement.

Greene, prior to the midterm elections, vowed that GOP control of the House would mean “not another penny will go to Ukraine.”

“Our country comes first. They don’t care about our border or our people,” she told supporters at a campaign rally.

Massie last month mocked the House Progressive Caucus after they retracted a letter to President Biden urging him to engage in peace talks to end the war in Ukraine.

The Political Insider reported that lawmakers from both parties are reportedly seeking to lock in a staggering $50 billion in additional military aid for Ukraine before the new Congress is sworn in this January.

Massie criticized the proposal, noting it is more than what the United States spent in Afghanistan in any one year.

“Annual US spending in Afghanistan until we exited: $50 billion. US spending in Ukraine this year: $50 billion. No joke,” he wrote. “C’mon man, the military-industrial complex isn’t going to fund itself.”

Unfortunately, there are a lot more lawmakers from both political parties that are part of the military-industrial complex Ukraine spending bonanza than there are people more concerned about America.
