Somali Muslim Arrested in Assassination of British MP in Suspected Islamist Terror Attack

Tragedy struck the United Kingdom on Friday after a 25-year-old man, suspected of being a Somali national, killed Conservative Member of Parliament Sir David Amess on October 15, 2021.

Amess was killed at the Belfairs Methodist Church in Leigh-on-sea. The suspect stabbed him multiple times at the church and was later arrested by Essex Police on suspicion of murder.

Paramedics tried to save Amess, a 69-year-old father of five, but he ended up succumbing to his wounds. Despite the hyperpolarization of British politics, as is the case in most of the West, members of all sides of the British political aisle paid homage to the fallen MP.

Scotland Yard confirmed the murder of Amess was a terror attack late on Friday evening.
