White House: Government is ‘Paying Attention’ to Changes Made to Twitter by Elon Musk

On Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre revealed that the Biden Administration is “paying attention” to any “reporting” concerning pro-Free Speech changes that Elon Musk makes to Twitter under his ownership.

As reported by the New York Post, Pierre had previously said on Monday that the government is “keeping an eye on” Twitter as Musk fulfills his promises to make the platform more transparent, which has led to Musk revealing shocking new reports about the true extent of Twitter’s liberal bias, censorship, and election interference.

In response, Fox News’ Peter Doocy asked Pierre why the Biden White House remains on Twitter despite their criticisms of Musk’s changes.

“You’re saying that you’re keeping an eye on Twitter because it might not be a suitable platform,” Doocy pointed out. “So why use it?”

“[Biden] has always said, and he has been very clear in his belief, that it is important for social media platforms to continue to take steps to reduce hate speech and misinformation,” she replied. “And we’ll continue to say that. But media platforms make independent choices about the information that they present. I don’t have anything to share on any policy or any changes that we will be making.”

When Doocy pressed her on the possibility of government action against Twitter, Pierre pointed to the opinions of multiple far-left groups who have also criticized the new Twitter, including the “NAACP, the Anti-Defamation League and public health leaders [that] have been very vocal about their concerns as well.”

Other liberal government entities across the world have criticized or threatened Musk over his changes to Twitter, including the European Union (EU). Thierry Breton, the EU’s commissioner for digital policy, ordered Musk to implement more “protective” measures regarding so-called “misinformation” and “hate speech,” or else face a possible fine or even ban on Twitter from the continent.

In response, Musk said that “there is still huge work ahead” regarding the reforms he has in mind, and that he intends for Twitter to “implement transparent user policies, significantly reinforce content moderation and protect freedom of speech, tackle disinformation with resolve, and limit targeted advertising.”

After a lengthy corporate battle that nearly became a legal dispute, Musk successfully acquired Twitter in October. After firing the CEO, other top executives, and thousands of employees, Musk has begun implementing major changes, including the reversal of tens of thousands of bans of conservative accounts, and ending the platform’s controversial “misinformation policy” regarding COVID-19.
