Former Nickelodeon child star Melissa Joan Hart '100%' believes horror stories about abuse at the network

Former Nickelodeon star Melissa Joan Hart has come out and addressed the allegations leveled against the network by those who took part in the Quiet On Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV documentary series.

Hart, 47, said while she had no doubt that her fellow child actors and actresses were telling the truth about the abuse they suffered, she personally had "nothing but a wonderful experience."

"I've never been told these people's stories that are in the [documentary], and I have to say, I've never heard a story from a Nickelodeon star personally ... about any of these situations," Hart said on the Meghan McCain Has Entered the Chat podcast, noting nonetheless that, "I absolutely trust them, believe them, one hundred percent."

Hart, who starred in Clarissa Explains It All, was based in Orlando, Florida from 1989 to 1994, during which time she said the only issue she encountered was long working hours.

"We had a ton of fun," she said. "It was just long hours, that's all, because I had to school and the show."

Hart explained that during her time at the network, her mother would routinely leave her alone on set, but that she still felt "very protected and very safe."

"I was surrounded by an amazing crew, an incredible cast that took such good care of me," she said, adding that they were like "family" to her. "These people were protective of me."

Hart suggested that perhaps there "may have been a difference between Hollywood Nickelodeon and Orlando Nickelodeon," emphasizing that she believed "not every egg in the Nickelodeon basket is rotten."

In the documentary series, a number of high-profile child actors from the 1990s to early 2000s came forward to share their horror stories, many of which included allegations of sexual abuse perpetrated by those who were supposed to be keeping them safe.
