House Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan's announcement that his panel will hold a hearing next week in New York City to further examine violent crime in Manhattan is being criticized by a Democrat congressman who says "not in my district."

Jordan, an Ohio Republican, announced Monday the hearing will he held in the Javits Federal Building in Lower Manhattan, part of New York's 1st Congressional District, which is represented by Democrat Rep. Dan Goldman.

Goldman is calling the hearing "political theater" and suggesting House Republicans are coming to support former President Trump, who was recently indicted by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg for allegedly trying to conceal hush money payments during his 2016 White House campaign.

The hearing is titled "Victims of Violent Crime in Manhattan," according to The Hill newspaper.

The New York City Police Department's recently released crime report shows 35 murders last month, roughly the same compared to February and March 2022.

Said Goldman: "Instead of focusing on improving the lives of the American people, Jim Jordan has decided to come to my district at the behest of Donald Trump to continue to weaponize Congress to obstruct an ongoing, non-federal criminal prosecution."
