The Labor Department’s initial monthly jobs reports and Wall Street’s estimates in 2021 weren’t as reliable as usual.

The U.S. economy added 4.9 million jobs in the first 10 months of the year, according to the initial reports. After revisions, the number rose to 6 million.

That means President Biden paid a political price for what were seen as “missed expectations” that appear to have helped to sour voters on his handling of the economy.
