Smith & Wesson CEO: Politicians 'Are the Ones to Blame for the Surge in Violence and Lawlessness'

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, chaired by Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.), reportedly has subpoenaed data on sales and profits of Smith & Wesson’s AR-15-style rifles.

In response, Smith & Wesson President & CEO Mark Smith issued a statement Monday blaming politicians “for the surge in violence and lawlessness.”

“It is no surprise that the cities suffering most from violent crime are the very same cities that have promoted irresponsible, soft-on-crime policies that often treat criminals as victims and victims as criminals,” the statement says.

“Many of these same cities also maintain the strictest gun laws in the nation.”
