Recently Retired Agency Officials Say DEA Stopped Saying ‘Mexican Cartel’ to Appease Mexico

  • Recently-retired Drug Enforcement Administration officials who spoke with the Daily Caller News Foundation said that the agency directive to stop using the term “Mexican cartel” came from the Biden administration.
  • The two retired officials said that the Department of Justice (DOJ) took control of the messaging to cool relations with the Mexican government.
  • “They didn’t want us to say Mexican cartels,” one of the retired officials told the DCNF. “I think they wanted just to say transnational criminal organizations because I don’t think they wanted to lay all the blame on Mexico, they thought it was misleading.”
