New York City Mayor-elect Eric Adams is calling on fellow Democrats to openly criticize threats made by a local Black Lives Matter leader in response to the former police captain’s pledge to get tougher on crime.
Earlier this week following a meeting with Adams, Hawk Newsome, the founder of Black Lives Matter of Greater New York, threatened “riots” and “bloodshed” if Adams restarted an anti-crime unit as he has promised to do.
“I think that this is an excellent moment for the local and state and federal Democratic Party to state: We could have justice without violence,” Adams told reporters during a Friday press conference.
