Sens. Cruz, Barrasso Introduce School Safety Bill Focusing on Hardening Schools, Not Gun Control

Sens. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and John Barrasso (R-WY) introduced school safety legislation on Wednesday that focuses on hardening schools rather than instituting more gun control.
The bill is called the Safe Kids, Safe Schools, Safe Communities Act of 2022.
The Act focuses on doubling the number of school resource officers currently on campuses around the country. The doubling of resource officers would be funded by “$17.5 billion in unspent American Rescue Plan education funds.”
The legislation also focuses on making sure that the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) has all the information necessary in its system to perform a thorough background check. This means all records that could disqualify someone from a purchase would be included.
